Dec 14-18

This week we will wrap up our first semester.  We have had 75 days of great learning in our classroom and I am so proud of my students hard work! Our homeroom moms have been hard at work planning for the winter party.  Thanks to all of you who signed up to bring items for the party, help to set up, or clean up after the party. I am sure the children will have a great and memorable time. During this season, whatever celebrations and traditions you have in your family, I wish you all a very Happy Holiday season!  Mrs. Solis and I hope to see you all on Thursday!

This week's Homework:
On Monday, I will send a homework sheet in your child's daily folder. This homework is titled " My Family's Native Country and Celebrations".  It is a graphic organizer.  Basically, your child needs to talk to you and ask you some questions such as traditional food eaten during your celebration, language spoken, and so on. It is a short and manageable homework.  Please assist your child in answering the questions but have them write with their own handwriting.  My expectations are, neat and beautiful writing to their abilities. This homework is due by Wednesday, Dec 16th.  The children will present their work to the class and talk about their celebrations.

We are going to have a busy and short week a head of us.  We will work on some fun winter projects, finish up and bring a conclusion to our PBL project, meet with our fourth grade buddies to work on a graphing project, and enjoy listening to a Ginger Bread Man story by our wonderful guest reader and assistant principal Mrs. Solis.

FIRST GRADE PBL (Project Based learning) PROJECT:
Our PBL project has been a huge success so far! Our first graders did a great job making posters and advertisements and using other forms of media such as TV broadcast to inform the public about a real life problem.  So far, we have been able to collect over 200 books and we're hoping to collect and add more to our Book Drive bar graph this coming week.  Once all books are collected, we will deliver the books to Palm Elementary and record our interview with teachers.  These books will be used by students and teachers that lost many of their books during the flood.  What a great difference our first graders have been able to make!

THANK YOU!
Thank you for stuffing the folders, and being willing to help in the classroom or outside the classroom. Your helping hands and hearts are greatly appreciated!

More than anything, thank you for supporting your child's learning at home.  Your child's success and education is a result of, us working together! So thank you for being a partner in your child's learning!
